Dr. Frédéric Grillot, part of Télécom Paris, in collaboration with UC Los Angeles, and TU Darmstad have observed extreme events in quantum cascade lasers. The extreme events that they've observed enable an optical neuron system 10,000x faster than biological neurons. Their report has been published in Advanced Photonics and is features in SPIE news.
